Philadelphia, PA: Options Without Walls held their semi-annual Doctoral Studies Panel Discussion at the Community College of Philadelphia’s Northwest Regional Center, 1300 W. Godfrey Avenue, on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 9:00am – 12:00pm. The theme for the fall session panel discussion was, Complete your Research & Program: No Matter What, Where, or How!
Doctoral students, candidates, and aspiring doctoral students used this powerful, informative, and inspiring one-day event to network, gain greater insight into research methods and effective construction of the dissertation, and learn about post-doctoral career opportunities. The panel members consisted of African-American professionals, with earned doctorate degrees, who are experienced scientific researchers and scholars with an awareness and sensitivity to many of the obstacles that African-American doctoral students and candidates face as they journey through their doctoral program.
The participants described this one-day event as powerful, prescriptive, highly informative and inspirational. The attendees were able to use the event to network.
Dr. Anthony Driggers, founder of College Options Without Walls, LLC, says that the organization has as a part of their professional mission, the goal of increasing the number of students of color on to the doctorate degree roster. After attending the Black Doctoral Network Conference in 2013, Dr. Driggers was inspired to start this initiative to support doctoral students and candidates. “We believe that with guidance and mentoring we can assure that more African-Americans will earn their doctorate degree”, states Dr. Driggers.
The Next Options Without Walls Doctoral Symposium event is scheduled for April 16, 2016.
